Shant Harutyunyan in freedom

19/05/2009

Yesterday Shant Harutyunyan, a political prisoner sentenced in the framework of the case of seven, was set free from the prison of Vardashen. His case was stopped on April 1 because of health problems. After that during one month Shant Harutyunyan was kept in isolated awful conditions of a psychiatric hospital, where the doctors had to examine and issue a medical conclusion concerning his health conditions. Thus, according to yesterday’s medical conclusion, “when committing the crime Shant Harutyunyan was not in a conscious condition.” Due to this medical conclusion the criminal case was raised. Even though during the past year the government and judicial systems have numerously crossed the limits permitted by the law and even the morality, this case with Shant Harutyunyan was a specific case of cynicism. They kept this man in the jail for one year, did everything they wanted with him, and now they say that he was not guilty… Everyone knows who deserves this situation in this country but now the most important thing is that Shant Harutyunyan is free now.
