Private meeting in Sevan

19/10/2005

The President of the Republic of Armenia went to Sevan to relax on October 16th, where he also met with the coalition members. During the meeting, some issues were discussed concerning the projects being implemented for the upcoming Constitutional Amendment referendum. According to our sources, representative of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) Vahan Hovhannisyan announced that he was not satisfied with the work being done by the Police of the Republic of Armenia, in particular, he commented on the head of the department of passports and invitations Alvina Zakaryan’s job. Vahan Hovhannisyan also stated that as a result of the incorrect voters’ lists, most of their coalition members have not been enlisted to vote and were not able to participate in the elections. The president ordered the police chief to correct the lists and also to conduct exams for the head of passport departments and officers from the districts where the local authorities’ elections were being held. Robert Kocharyan has promised to take serious action in regard to this issue as soon as he returns from Brussels. The constitutional amendment referendum is coming up, however, the fact that most of the ARF members, who are defending the new plan of the constitution and are not enlisted in the voters’ list, does not please the authorities.
