Dangerous expectations

While the Armenian people are busy with the upcoming mayoral elections, certain things are happening out of Armenia, which don’t stand for a pro-Armenian settlement of Karabakh conflict. In order to see this fact it is enough to read the official information. For example, according to the foreign affairs ministry of Armenia, yesterday the French Ambassador in Armenia Serge Smessow passed the message of the French foreign affairs minister Bernard Kouchner, according to which the French FM reaffirms his willingness to make efforts for the purpose of peaceful settlement of Karabakh conflict. The foreign affairs minister of Armenia received such message from the US State Secretary Hillary Clinton given by the American co-chair to the OSCE MG Mathew Bryza. What is happening outside Armenia that we don’t know? Nothing serious. Yesterday the Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that during the visit of the US president Barak Obama to Turkey the issue of Karabakh conflict settlement will be discussed as well. Certainly he also said that it will help to overcome the difficulties existing in the Armenian-Turkish relations as well. “The US, France and Russia as members of the Minsk Group can solve that issue in a very short time,” said Erdogan. During this period the president of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso welcomed that initiative during his meeting with the Turkish president Abdullah Gull. “Referring to the historical visit of Abdullah Gull to Armenia, which is a political step showing the smart policy, I am congratulating president Gull for the mentioned initiative. We are expecting to see the concrete results of that visit in the nearest future,” he said. Everyone knows which are the preconditions enabling Turkey announce about such expectations because Turkey has been connecting the issue of the Armenian-Turkish relationships with the conflict of Karabakh (Turkey wants Armenia to return the liberated territories). The Armenian authorities are getting ready for…the upcoming mayoral election in Yerevan. On the other hand, it is not excluded that the government’s strong commitment to the mayoral elections is connected with this fact too. In other words, the expectations of the authorities will come true during the election if the expectations of Kouchner, Clinton, Barroso… and Erdogan come true as well. It is possible that very soon the Armenian FM Edward Naldandyan will receive the Russian foreign affairs minister Sergey Lavrov’s message as well.
