On May 4 seven political powers applied to the Central Electoral Commission to take part in the mayoral election of May 31. The mentioned parties are the following: RPA, PA, Legal State, ARF, People’s Party, Armenian National Congress and Labor and Socialistic Party of Armenia. There are many new things in the electoral lists of the mentioned parties.
The list of RPA party consists of 180 candidates and the first candidate is the incumbent mayor Gagik Beglaryan, the second one in the list is Andranik Margaryan’s son Taron Margaryan, the third candidate nominated by the RPA is the founding director of ASD Ltd nonpartisan Hrach Poghosyan, the fourth person in the list is the director of the National Healthcare Institute after S. Avdalbekyan academician Derenik Dumanyan, and the fifth person in the list is the board president of Armrusgazard company Karen Karapetyan. In the RPA pre-election lists there are many names of people who are not connected with the city and have nothing to do with city administration. The 8th place in the list is given to the head of the Armenian Journalists’ Union Astghik Gevorgyan, Martin Vardazaryan is in the 10th place, artist Vladimir Msryan is in the 11th place. The director of Yerevan Chamber Theatre Ara Yernjakyan is nominated in the RPA list as well. The next candidates in the list are the incumbent community heads of Yerevan who are from the RPA. The 25th place is given to architect Levon Igityan, film producer Michael Dovlatyan is in the 26th place.
Almost in all lists submitted to the CEC there are politicians who have included the names of their children in the lists as well. The RPA is the first one with the number of “sons” in the pre-election lists because after the 25th place there are many names of “rich sons”. The 31st place is given to the son of the former community head of Erebuni. Mher Sedrakyan’s son is 25 years old. The 34th place is given to the son of the president’s adviser, former minister Vardan Khachatryan’s son aged 25. The 48th place is given to the son of former minister of transport and communication Edward Madatyan. This young man is 24 years old. By the way, the father of this young man is in the 153rd place of the list. The head of the communal affairs department of Yerevan municipality Frunze Basentsyan has arranged a place for his son too and his son is in the 74th place. RPA member Vazgen Karakhanyan’s son aged 25 is in the 163rd place.
There are sons of politicians in the pre-election list of Legal State party as well. For example, the son of Felix Tokhyan, judge of the Constitutional Court. There are no sons or daughters of party officials in the lists of ARF. The 8th place of the ARF list is given to artist Ruben Hakhverdyan and the 11th place is given to ARF member David Sargsyan, the director of the National Library.
In the pre-election list of Prosperous Armenia party the 108th place is given to the son of MP Versandik Hakobyan. The daughter of Ruben Gevorgyan (Tsaghik Rubo) is included in the PA list as well.
Besides university professors and teachers there are a number of businessmen in the PA list as well. Such businessmen are Hayk Arshin LLC director Aragats Akhoyan, Multi Agro Ltd chief veterinarian Norayr Chagharyan, mechanic of Multi gas station Vano Baghoyan and head of the expertise laboratory of Multi Agro bee breeding company Yeranyak Tsarukyan.
There are sons of several politicians in the pre-elections list of the Armenian National Congress as well. For example, in the ANC list the 69th place is given to Yerjanik Abgaryan’s son and the 90th place is given to the son of PPA member Felix Khachatryan. The 91st place of the ANC pre-election list is given to the daughter of the Marxists’ party chairman David Hakobyan. ANM deputy chairman Aram Manukyan is in the 166th place, and his son is in the 97th place.
By the way, the head of the ANM board Ararat Zurabyan is in the last place of the list. First president of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrosyan, PPA president Stepan Demirchyan, Levon Zurabyan and ANM board deputy chairman Khachatur Kokobelyan are in the first four places of the ANM pre-election list.
