Case of Seven to proceed without six accused people

13/03/2009

During yesterday’s court session of the Case of Seven Sargis Kloyan, the father of Gor Kloyan killed during the March 1 unrest in 2008, came up with mediation suggesting the judge to resign. “Since last year you have been preventing me from having a representative,” said the man, whose son was killed on March 1. The accusing party rejected the mediation by saying that the case was rather substantiated, thus Kloyan already has the opportunity of legal consultation. The six political prisoners got angry at this statement (Martirosyan did not allow Shant Harutyunyan to take part in the session), who made statements as well. The judge decided that by such statements the accused people were demonstrating disregard to the court and made five of them leave the court room without the right to be present during ten days. The next session took place today only with participation of Grigor Voskerchyan. In other words, the judge, M. Martirosyan made the wish of the authorities to hold sessions without the accused people come true, which is already permitted by the law as a result of the recent amendment to the Criminal Code.
