Yesterday morning it was found out that political detainees of the Case of 7 Shant Harutyunyan hadn’t eaten anything for the past 9 days and wasn’t able to sleep. His health rapidly deteriorated and is scared of injections. Two days ago the monitoring group of prisoners of the ministry of justice received an alert call about the health of Harutyunyan. Yesterday the members of the group Avetik Ishkhanyan and Temik Khalapyan visited Vardashen penitentiary and spoke with Harutyunyan for about an hour. “The court had better review the restraint of political prisoner Shant Harutyunyan detained after the March 1 disorder,” told A1plus human rights activist Avetik Ishkhanyan. The latter had also spoken with the acting warden of Vardashen penitentiary Varuzhan Yeghiazaryan. The warden pledged that there had been no pressure on Harutyunyan. “The penitentiary administration ensures that no pressure has been exerted on Shant Harutyunyan. Shant doesn’t complain for their attitude either. He only states he is imprisoned for his political viewpoints. Shant Harutyunyan suffers form insomnia. He has been unable to sleep for a few days. I think that the restraint should be changed taking into consideration Shant’s psychological state,” said Ishkhanyan. Yesterday The Armenian National Congress (ANC) has issued a statement today which holds, “Political prisoner Shant Harutyunyan’s health state has sharply deteriorated in prison. He needs in-patient treatment and doctors’ supervision. The ANC demand that Shant Harutyunyan be immediately hospitalized and examined by independent specialists.”
