Charles Aznavour refused to become the Ambassador of Armenia in Switzerland. He announced about his decision in an interview given to the El Pais. According to radio Liberty, Aznavour said that he is an independent person. “Recently the president of Armenia suggested me to become the Ambassador of Armenia in Geneva. I felt very proud, I was happy that day. However I realized that if I accepted that suggestion, I would lose my independence. If any decision of the Armenian government does not satisfy me, I will feel upset. I can’t lose my freedom for any honored position,” said Charles Aznavour, who has a title of hero and citizenship of the Republic of Armenia.
