“Sanctioned” social riot

07/02/2009

Yesterday the minister of finances of Russia Alexey Kudrin stated that due to the international crisis the incomes of the Russian state budget will be cut by 40%. We are talking about a country, from which Armenia expects from 200 million USD to 1 billion USD help. It is obvious that Russia will give us money only due to political motives. However the words of the Russian finance minister are interesting when we compare those with the policy adopted by the Armenian government. At least the Russian authorities are honest to their citizens and don’t inspire people with empty optimism. Meanwhile the Armenian citizens are tired of witnessing premier Tigran Sargsyan “only kind news” TV actions. Moreover, it’s understandable that the Russian government think of their posts as well and their honesty also has some intention to prevent the possibility of a social riot. However, in Armenia they raise the taxes of those, who would be standing in the first rows of the social riot initiators. As a response to the statement that people complain of the installation of receipt units Tigran Sargsyan says, “The statesmen must serve the people.” The impression is that the government is trying to do its best to send the people on the streets ASAP. There is a huge group of medium businessmen, who are on the threshold of ceasing their businesses. They just don’t make noise about that. The picture becomes even more impressive when one reviews the rates of unemployment and migration. Thus, if things proceed the way they do now the Armenian government will be not as much threatened by the Russian loan but the possibility of appearing in the state of Island’s government, which had to resign several days ago because of behaving the way the Armenian government does.
