The closer the winter session of the PACE is, the more realistic is becoming the possibility of depriving Armenia of its voting right. The authorities have already got used to the possibility of such scenario and initiated an “anti-European hysteria”. Even the government, which hoped that John Prescott and George Colombier would do something to help, has lost the hopes that their visit may change anything. According to our information, yesterday some groups of the governmental elite discussed the possibility of organizing some demonstrations against Prescott and Colombier. Thus, it is not excluded that the young representatives of the governmental RPA, ARF and PA parties may meet the PACE co-reporters with posters and slogans at the airport. It is hard to understand what the goal of such demonstration is. Some sources of information from the government say that the authorities want to endorse a policy of “winning benefits from punishments”, according to which in consideration of the fact that anyway they are going to lose their voting right this time they can keep the political prisoners in cells for more six months and on the threshold of the summer session may release them and say that this amnesty was granted due to the pressure of the PACE in order to recover their voting right.
