Yesterday in Paris the PACE session took place, during which the report of the PACE rapporteur Thomas Hammarberg’s on 1609 and 1620 resolutions was presented. The report implies that there are political prisoners in Armenia and that Armenia didn’t abide with the requirements of the mentioned resolutions. Among other recommendations the PACE commission offers to deprive Armenia of the voting right in the PACE during its January winter session. Thus, it turns out that the Armenian delegation wasn’t able to persuade the Europeans that the government abides with the requirements of the PACE. During the phone interview with our reporter member of the Armenian delegation Armen Rustamyan confessed that they didn’t succeed in persuading the Europeans by saying that none of their recommendations was accepted. Theoretically, the Armenian government only has one option to fix the situation within a month and that includes granting amnesty to all the political prisoners.
