Law born from fear

“The mayor of Yerevan must be elected directly because he/she must have the direct vote of the citizen. And that will be the best warranty for the mayor to be strong and work well. Every politician or statesmen serves for the ones, who vote for him/her,” yesterday said the head of the Heritage parliamentary factor Armen Martirosyan during the discussion of the law on Yerevan in the National Assembly. The MP also thinks that the government is trying to elect the mayor with the votes of the council because it will be more difficult for the government to falsify the votes of citizens in Yerevan. “There is a great chance that a representative of opposition may be elected mayor of Yerevan,” added Martirosyan.
