On November 2 the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan had a meeting, which had been initiated by the Russian president Dmitry Medvedev. During the meeting Sargsyan and Aliyev signed a declaration, which consists of five points. In fact this meeting did not have so much significance and importance as it was trying to be presented. The only noteworthy improvement as a result of this meeting is that since the ceasefire agreement it is the first time that the two presidents are signing a document. As for this document, it includes just established facts and nothing more, i.e. it reaffirms the confirmation of the parties to continue the negotiations in the framework of the Madrid principles. To note, these principles include provisions concerning returning the liberated lands to Azerbaijan and cloudy provisions concerning organizing a memorandum in Karabakh. In other words, the meeting did not give anything to the parties but re-affirming that “Aghdam is not our land”. The Armenian politicians and experts don’t see any noteworthy improvements after this meeting either. The only intrigue of the meeting in Moscow is that another document was also signed in confidential conditions, which was hidden under the mentioned declaration read by Medvedev.
