The Sunday elections of the mayor in Gyumri proceeded in an environment of violations. Starting from early morning the precincts of Gyumri were surrounded by special forces of RA. This has become a quite common phenomenon in Armenia. At any rate, during the recent local government elections the special forces have played their role in the electoral process. Despite the large number of election violations the mayor of Gyumri, member of the RPA Vardan Ghukasyan was “re-elected” with the votes of 31.375. The next candidate non-partisan Martun Grigoryan, who was supported by the Prosperous and Heritage parties, gained 19.905 votes. Member of the Self-Determination Union Daniel Darbinyan gained 769 votes. The chairman of TEC #34 Sayat Minasyan said that there were no major violations, which would affect the outcome of elections.
