Dinner after mint

26/10/2008

President of Russian Federation Dmitri Medvedev arrived yesterday in Yerevan on an official visit at the invitation of Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan. This is Medvedev’s first official visit to Armenia in the position of president (reminder: right after his victory at the presidential elections Medvedev paid his first visit to Azerbaijan). Of course Medvedev’s visit to Armenia is very important and also slightly concerning for the Armenian authorities. Despite the standard formulations of the purposes of the visit, such as “discussion of mutual relations,” “signing of inter-governmental agreements,” etc it is obvious that the visit of Medvedev to Armenia is stipulated by the recent geopolitical developments in our region as well as the NKR conflict resolution and the “Turkish initiative.” The Armenian governmental officials are most concerned about the recent statements of the foreign affairs minister Sergey Lavrov, who offered to recede Karabakh and normalize Turkish-Armenian relations. Many details of the Russian president to Armenia will be revealed today during Sargsyan-Medvedev joint press conference. Prior to that an official dinner was served to Medvedev yesterday by the name of Serzh Sargsyan.
