Yesterday the NA standing committee on legal affairs discussed the draft law on Yerevan. Reminder: This draft has been discussed by the first reading back in winter and so far has not be submitted to the second reading. Yesterday the deputy minister of territorial administration offered the mentioned committee to prolong the second reading of the law for 15 days. By the way, the draft should have been discussed on October 20 during the NA full session. This is the second attempt of prolonging the second reading of the draft. It was first prolonged for thirty days. And even if the draft reading is not prolonged for the second time it will be discussed in the parliament in November and the law on Yerevan will be adopted by the end of the year. According to our information the elections of the mayor of Yerevan will be held in May-June 2009. “It’s quite possible,” told our reporter the deputy-chairman of the committee Artyusha Shahbazyan. “According to this draft the elections of the mayor must be held within 2 months from the moment of the adoption of the law but it doesn’t mean that the elections will be conducted at the end of the deadline. It’s not even excluded that the elections will be held by 2009.”
