Confessed

About two weeks ago we wrote that US congressman Brad Sherman said that as a result of the Georgian-Russian conflict Armenia had a loss equal to $680 million. If this figure is true it is very big for a small country such as Armenia and it is not quite understandable how the authorities can say that there is no reason to worry. For a long time no one has spoken anything about this figure. However, on September 24 the prime-minister said during a meeting with the Ambassador of the Netherlands that this figure is true. Specifically the statement of the government writes the following: “The prime-minister and the Ambassador discussed issues concerning the results of the financial crisis in the world, the affect on the Armenian economy, the losses of Armenia resulted from the Georgian conflict totaling about $700 million, as well as any possible support of the government of the Netherlands connected with import and export”. However the statement does not write who said that specifically. We’d like to use this opportunity and ask the prime-minister to clarify how that figure (700 million) came and based on what calculations this number was brought. Otherwise without any calculations and substantiations it seems that our officials are making announcements basing on information from abroad and ideas of foreign officials spoken during meetings.
