In between “lifetime enemy” and “lifetime friend”

Yesterday the Turkish prim-minister Mr. Erdoghan announced that president of Turkey Abdullah Gul will visit Armenia to watch to soccer match between the Armenian and Turkish national teams on September 6. After this announcement many representatives of the Turkish parliamentarian majority Justice and Development party applied to the head of the mentioned faction to get permission to visit Armenia. Before the mentioned announcement the Turkish foreign affairs minister Ali Babajan announced that they would discuss the issue of Ankara’s suggestion to establish a stability and security platform in the region would be discussed with Yerevan this week. The latter said, “The issue will be discussed during the Turkish delegation’s visit to Armenia.” In this connection there have been both encouraging and disappointing publications in media. Specifically the Associated Press writes that before Gul’s visit to Armenia the Russian foreign affairs minister Sergey Lavrov will visit Istanbul to discuss the mentioned initiative.
