The new “Gabone” exhibition hall organized the exhibition of painter
Gabriel (Gapo) Manukayan’s collection of paintings. The painter’s
thirty canvases of the “Ha Ha He He” series fully corresponded to the
title. The paintings left a good impression on viewers. They are filled
with joy and relax the mind. Gabriel’s paintings portray imaginary
beings that fly, soar in the air, swim and dance, people and animals
are portrayed with bright colors. Red and the color of gold are the
colors that can be seen in most of Gapo’s paintings and they represent
happiness, a celebration. This style is similar to decorative art and
all his work is in the same style. After thirty minutes of viewing the
paintings, you refuse to go deep into the painting. Just one of Gapo’s
paintings hung on the wall immediately changes the atmosphere
surrounding the room and reminds the viewer that there are many more
reasons to smile and be happy in life than to go deep into thoughts and
feel depressed. Gapo’s paintings sell quickly and many foreigners have
some of his work. Gapo creates his characters based on his dreams and
those characters make the viewer also dream. There is no need to
analyze the characters; they are simply very beautiful and brilliant.
They also fill up the space on the canvas without letting the viewer to
penetrate into the world that Gapo has created. The “Gabone” exhibition
hall has just opened up and has big outlooks for the future. Being in
the right location and having the strive to bring in new pieces of work
will provide the residents of Yerevan with the opportunity to get
acquainted with Armenian painting and the painters to show and sell
their paintings.
