The political developments after the events of March 1 in Armenia are reaching their termination point, which means that unlike any scenarios of development in the country the political processes will enter into a new phase of development very soon. We can understand what the new phase will be like basing on some facts that happened yesterday. Yesterday the parliament adopted the bill on establishing an ad hoc commission in charge of investigating the events of March 1 (93 votes for), which was boycotted by the only opposition power in the parliament (Heritage party) as their suggestions had not been considered. Despite the assurances of the commission head ARP member Samvel Nikoyan that the deputy head’s position will be given to a Heritage member, they say that such possibility is excluded. Before the parliament would adopt that bill, president Serzh Sargsyan ratified the changes to the law on conducting rallies, public assemblies and demonstrations. Furthermore, the city administration office of Yerevan refused the opposition’s application to organize a demonstration in the Liberty square or near the Matenadaran. All these things happened on the same day when PACE monitoring commission co-reporters John Prescott and George Colombier visited Armenia to see how well the requirements of the 1609 resolution are being carried out. Definitely the co-reporters think that it is very windy in Armenia because someone has been blowing their minds.
