Right of expressing complaints to be protected

“In our country always there have been rallies and there will be rallies in the future too. I have numerously said that I will protect the right of our citizens to express their complaints. As you can see now people are expressing their complaints on TV and through media, and rallies are another way how to express complaints. However, all we should understand that our rights cannot be preferred higher than the rights of others. The rights of all of us are ending there where the rights of others are starting. We should understand this,” said Serzh Sargsyan when commenting on the opposition’s rally to be organized on June 20 (the city administration office has rejected the apposition’s application for this rally). He said that the opposition can organize its rally in another place, in the surrounding area of Hrazdan sports stadium. “They can go and hold a rally. However, I don’t understand why they have been frightening all us during the past month and filling the media with certain hints… Don’t worry. Everything will be quiet, good and fine,” said Serzh Sargsyan. “We, the government, understand that there is opposition in the country. There is nothing surprising here because in all countries there are people who always complain about the results of elections,” said the president and added that the opposition could run for local government elections in the fall. “All political powers, who believe that the society trusts them more, can participate in the elections and get the people’s vote, and then govern local government communities. There will be elections for the position of the Yerevan mayor and they are free to participate in that election. Yerevan is one thirds part of the country and they are free to participate in that election, and if they win they can show us how well they can work,” he said and added that he didn’t see any reasons for organizing parliamentary elections because the parliamentary elections had finished one year ago.
