A group of MPs representing the coalition are circulating a draft in the parliament, according to which the salaries of the heads of the judicial, legislative and executive powers should be doubled. If this draft law is adopted, the president will get 800.000 dram a month, the speaker, prime-minister and the head of the Constitutional court will get 720.000 dram a month, vice speakers will get 620.000 dram, and MPs, ministers and the mayor of Yerevan will get 600.000 dram a month. According to this law, the governors will get 460.000 dram a month. The government has not informed about its opinion concerning this draft. It is not excluded that this bill might have been initiated for the purpose of making some populism show. In other words, it is clear that people don’t like this idea and the government may reject this proposal by explaining that it is not time to increase those salaries because we are in crisis and we can pay that money to pensioners and other civic groups. On the other hand, the government may approve this bill by explaining that it will fight against corruption and high ranked officials will not take bribe if they get paid well. In both cases people will laugh at them when they see their satisfied faces thinking that they are working for people. As for laughing, it helps to live long, thus our officials will live long as well.
