According to “RIA News” news agency, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey
Lavrov stated the following during his speech given at Stratford
University on Tuesday: “Russia recognizes America’s interests in the
countries belonging to the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS),
but at the same time, Russia wishes to see the U.S. acting in a more
comprehensible and transparent way.” The Foreign Minister added that
this has been discussed by both Russian President Vladimir Putin and
U.S. President George Bush during a meeting held in Washington a week
ago. “It is clearly evident that democracy can not develop in
post-Soviet countries without the help of Russia. There is just no way
around it,” said Sergey Lavrov.
