End to complementary politics

30/03/2008

Yesterday the Prime Minister of RA, president-elect Serzh Sargsyan paid his first foreign visit in his new status. Of course, he visited Russia. The near future will perhaps show the economic-political outcome of the visit. But the fact that he paid a visit to Russia caused numerous assumptions. The first assumption is that Armenia once again demonstrated its clear pro-Russian orientation. It’s hard to tell whether this evident foreign policy polarization was a result of post-electoral developments or just the consequence of such a polarization by considering the conflict of interests in the region. Would we become so pro-Russian if we didn’t have the February 19 elections and events, which succeeded it or maybe we were pro-Russian and only now it became evident? At any rate we hope that Armenia will not eventually turn into Russia’s “hostage”, as one of the analysts said some time ago.
