The head of the public relations department of the US Embassy in Baku Jonathan Henik has announced that the document on the “occupied territories” does “not solve any problems” connected with the Karabakh conflict settlement. In the interview given to the Azeri ANS-Press news agency Mr. Henik said that the mentioned resolution of the UN was “ineffective”. According to him, there are dozens of resolutions in the UN, which have not found a solution so far. He finds that the most effective settlement of the conflict can be found within the frames of the OSCE Minsk Group peaceful negotiations. “If they work hard within the framework of that process, they can solve the problem. It is not an easy process. In case of starting the conflict again it will be a tragedy both for Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as the region. It is natural that Azerbaijan must be ready to make compromises to the Armenian party. It does not mean that Azerbaijan should sacrifice its national interests. However, meanwhile they should try to find realistic solutions. We want the refugees to return to their lands,” concluded Jonathan Henik.
