Serious debate

“I have an imagination that there is a serious debate on the quality of the election since the presidential election of February 19,” said the EU PACE president Goran Lenmarker to the radio Liberty. “The OSCE/ODIHR and the parliamentary assembly, certainly, have agreed upon the preliminary report published following the voting day. They will publish their final report as well, which will reflect the post-election processes and this one, of course, will create some confusion,” he said. Answering to a question whether he had discussed with the Armenian authorities any issues concerning the arrests of political activists in the recent period Goran Lenmarker said, “According to the explanations given by the government, the reason of such arrests is illegal weapons. I don’t know what is right and what is wrong. I have been told only this information and it is hard for a foreigner to estimate it”. “I hope you will see peaceful solutions and there will not be any clampdown,” said Lenmarker and also informed about his meetings with some presidential candidates representing the opposition, “Some opposition parties are going to apply to the Constitutional Court to find a final solution and they say they will accept the CC decision”. Lenmarker also said that the OSCE parliamentary assembly will not come up with a specific report concerning the Armenian presidential election and will base its estimations on the final report of the OSCE/ODIHR. To note, the mentioned report will be ready in the middle of April.
