“The post-election crisis now gripping Armenia centers on the process more than the result of the election. The on-going crisis is not simply a political crisis, but is more a reflection of several underlying fundamental problems, including corruption, socio-economic injustice and "good governance gone bad". Although Armenian politics is dominated by personalities over platforms or policies, this crisis is not a personal clash between Ter-Petrosian and Sarkisian, but is a larger "crisis of confidence". There are other factors exacerbating this situation as well, such as the sharp polarization of Armenian politics, most evident in the lack of any mediating force on the scene. and finally, one of the more general lessons from this crisis is that although stability is important, there is a dangerous lack of legitimacy due largely to the absence of accountability and the weak rule of law in the country,” says American analyst Richard Giragosyan concerning the post-election processes in Armenia. According to him, as long as the demonstrations remain within legal bounds (by the way, yesterday the RA police dispersed an announcement reading one more time that the demonstrations are not legal), the emergence of an active and healthy opposition is actually in everyone’s best interests. In his words, a dynamic opposition serves to strengthen, not threaten, democracy in Armenia. “I have also stressed that evolutionary change, with a focus on sustaining and strengthening institutions, not individuals, was crucial for real and resilient democracy in Armenia,” Richard Giragosyan said to the 168 Hours. These days some political powers are speaking that some external powers want to organize a colored revolution in Armenia. Answering to our question whether the processes in Armenia can be considered “colored revolution” initiated by the USA and if yes whether Armenia needs such a revolution Richard Giragosyan said, “No, most clearly the current crisis in Armenia is not a "colored" revolution, and the US is not involved in this directly.”
