Yesterday morning the Armenian human rights defendant office received information that member of the Republic party Smbat Ayvazyan, who was taken to the police on February 24, has been beaten by police officers. Ombudsman Armen Harutyunyan has issued an order to convene an ad hoc commission, which has visited the Kentron community department of the police and met with Ayvazyan. The latter refused the information saying that he had been beaten and said that he didn’t have any complaints concerning his health and the investigative works. According to the human rights defendant office, Ayvazyan has been provided with the lawyer he wanted to have.
