Police to interfere

03/03/2008

The winner of the recent Armenian presidential election Serzh Sargsyan has given interview to Reuters news agency and said the police will interfere if the protest participants violate the law. He doesn’t think that the demand of the opposition to void the results of the election and organize new elections is legal. “We have received positive estimations by the international observers and diplomatic missions,” he said, “We have to convince the rally participants not to violate the law and the public order, not to violate the rights of others. However, if they do that, the police will have to interfere to protect the public order”. By the way, yesterday the police sent a notification letter to the rally participants and informed that their rally was not legally allowed. The organizers of the rally refused to sign the notification letter.
