“Armenia shouldn’t enter that troubled water”

“The historic past of Kosovo, having nothing in common with the Karabakh issue, is much more like the history of Nakhijevan, when the world powers decided to artificially annex territories to the country they considered convenient. Unlike Artsakh the population of Kosovo is not indigenous, unlike Kosovo, which independence was declared by the Parliament the NKR acquired its independence through a referendum,” political scientist Levon Melik-Shahnazaryan declared at a press conference yesterday. He also added that Kosovo doesn’t control the territory it possesses. “Unlike this in the whole territory of Artsakh is based on the NKR laws. Moreover, till 1999 Kosovo didn’t have either state or administrative status. As opposed to this, by having an administrative status in the Soviet territory, the NKR annexed the Soviet Union in accordance with all the norms of the international right,” he noted. According to him, all the nations of the world have the right of national determination. However this right must be based on historic-ethical principles and shouldn’t contradict the rights of other states. Otherwise it will turn into war and separatism. Melik-Shahnazaryan believes that by recognizing he independence of Kosovo the west is trying to pick another chunk from the Russian influence. In his words, that is the reason why Kosovo was able to attain independence. “Besides that, by knowing well that Russia cannot help recognizing the independence of post-Soviet states, they meanwhile send a messages to the ethical minorities living in Russia by saying the more you struggle for your independence the more support you will have from the west,” he emphasized. In his words, the west and first of all the US had a goal to establish an Islamic state in the center of Europe. According to the political scientist’s prediction the independence of Kosovo will not last very long because it will be annexed to Albania soon. Later this expanded Albania will receive another chunk – part of Macedonia if not the whole, where the 45% of the population are Albanians. “Later they will annex Montenegro, the southern part of which is populated by Albanians. In the north of Greece the Albanians also make a serious quantity and there are already serious issues with the Greeks. It means they have picked a nation, which has aggressive goals and has a great potential of growing,” he ensured by mentioning that he doesn’t have any doubt that the independence of Kosovo will be recognized by many states of the world. According to him, sooner or later Kosovo’s independence will be recognized by Russia because it is an “irrefutable fact.” In the words of the expert only the states, which have their own territorial issues, will not recognize Kosovo’s independence. Melik-Shahnazaryan thinks that Armenia shouldn’t enter into these troubled waters. Vice versa Armenia must put the emphasis on the fact that if Kosovo’s independence is recognized the NKR will have a great shot to have its independence recognized. “We must apply not only to certain organizations but also states, those states, which are in line to recognize Kosovo’s independence. Armenia must show to these states what it has and what Kosovo does. This must be the number one issue of the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Armenia. If in past the UN could have brought certain arguments now after the recognition of Kosovo there are no more arguments left. It’s interesting to know the answer of those states, which in the Security Council of the UN are zealously fighting for Kosovo’s independence,” emphasized the political scientist.
