On Saturday Levon Ter-Petrosyan and his supporters organized a rally in the Freedom square. A lot of people have attended the rally and the square was full of people. The crowd was so big that it surrounded the Swan lake till the Northern Avenue.
A lot of speeches were made during the rally. The chairman of “Soul Trial” NGO, war participant Sasun Mikayelyan made a speech too. “We, the war participants, are ready to stand for organizing fair elections and not to let anyone make violations,” he said and turned to Ter-Petrosyan, “I am wishing a good luck, Mr. President”. “My war participant friends and I are offended because people are speaking about the cold and dark times and are forgetting about the war and our victory,” he said. Hakob Hakobyan was on the scene too. During the rally the “Soul Trial” NGO made an official statement to endorse Ter-Petrosyan during the elections. The mentioned statement, which was adopted by the board of the mentioned non-governmental organization, writes the following: “In consideration of the fact that the moral and psychological environment in the country should be changed, being loyal to the ideology of military leader Vazgen Sargsyan, we are joining this national movement, which is becoming bigger day by day”. Stepan Demirchyan made a speech too, during which he spoke about all activities, which are a reason why “Serzh Sargsyan should be shame”. Specifically, he believes that it is shame to occupy the power, it is shame to apply power on people, it is shame to violate elections, it is shame to take bribe and meanwhile speak about fighting corruption, it is shame to be responsible for the terror of October 27 and meanwhile run for president. Stepan Demirchyan also believes that it is shame on the part of the public to resist this government too. Nikol Pashinyan said in his speech that “the authorities have decided to annihilate important documents before leaving and that is the reason why they have burnt the ministry of justice”.
At the end of the rally Ter-Petrosyan made a speech. The first president had a document in his hands and he dedicated the main part his speech to that document. During the rally the first president discovered, as he said, a great conspiracy against Armenia. The problem concerns the “Meghri” version of Karabakh conflict settlement, which was hidden from the public 10 years ago. “This topic has been discussed numerously, there have been many rumors, but the president, PM and FM have refuted those rumors. This issue concerns exchanging Meghri with Karabakh. Now that conspiracy is undiscovered,” said Levon Ter-Petrosyan and read a part of that document, which the incumbent government was ready to sign. “After executing this agreement the territory of the former NKR, Shushi region and Lachin region were to be given to Armenia. After executing this agreement Meghri region of Armenia was to be given to Azerbaijan with its borders as of 1988,” reads the document presented by the first president. After these words thousands of people in the square cried “sh-a-me”. Ter-Petrosyan also read the fifth article of the draft agreement: “After this agreement entering into force the citizens of Meghri and also the Armenian citizens of existing Aghdam, Fizuli, Jibrayil, Kubatli, Zangelan, Kelbajar, Shahumyan shall be peacefully removed to Armenia. This process of removing shall finish in sixty days after the execution of this agreement. This process shall be planned and implemented under the control of international monitoring missions mentioned in Articles 10, 11 herein. Meghri region shall first of all be populated by the Azeri citizens, who have been removed from those territories as a result of the conflict”. Levon Ter-Petrosyan also said that after executing that agreement Armenia would have only 1436 kilometers border with Azerbaijan and Turkey instead of the existing 1700 kilometers, and in addition we would not have any borders with Iran. “We would have borders with Georgia only. The most part of that border is populated with Azeris – the regions of Marneuli and Bolnis. If we are deducting this line too, we are having only 40 kilometers window to Georgia and Akhalkalak in the conditions of blockade, and nothing more,” Ter-Petrosyan said and added, “In such case Armenia would stop being a state. All the ways, tubes could be closed at any time and we would stay isolated from the world and would starve”. Levon Ter-Petrosyan assures that Vazgen sargsyan and Karen Demirchyan did not allow them execute such agreement during a security session. “Karen Demirchyan and Vazgen Sargsyan, I am saying this with a great sense of responsibility, were the ones who stopped this conspiracy by sacrificing their lives. If this version has not been considered as one of the main motives of the terror on October 27, the reason is that the investigation departments did not know about this document,” he said. After the rally they walked through the following streets: Mashtots-Koryun-Abovyan-Tumanyan-The Republic Square. After that the first president continued his speech and said that the mentioned rally was to show that there were no insuperable barriers. Their next rally will take place on February 16 in Yerevan, in the Freedom square, at 3pm. The next day after this rally, on February 9 the first president organized a big rally in the second biggest city of Armenia, Gyumri.
