Stop the campaign!

25/12/2007

“I am petitioning the both parties to stop that campaign against each other. I think that printing such articles is not a good thing,” yesterday said Hrant Bagratyan concerning an article published in “Haykakan Zhamanak” newspaper concerning Vazgen Manukyan. He says that it is better for the opposition candidates not to speak about each other, but about Serzh Sargsyan. “It is the first time that I see opposition parties to speak about each other that way. In normal countries such candidates would be excluded since as they say they represent the opposition, it means that they are to speak about the authorities and show what failures they have,” he said and petitioned to stop that “campaign”. Answering to a question what he thinks about the fact that Vazgen Manukyan has brought a court case against the editorial office of that newspaper and whether he would do the same Hrant Bagratyan said, “I don’t know. First, I could not be in Vazgen Manukyan’s position. Despite the fact that I have done a lot for this country I didn’t nominate my candidacy once I saw a candidate stronger than me. Certainly, he has the right to be nominated, but why does he speak about Levon Ter-Petrosyan that way if they have agreed not to do that?”
