Nothing special, just conditionality

When chewing apple and watching on TV people from the Buzand and Kozern neighborhoods gathered in front of the President’s Office or the Government Building you change the channel it means two things. You either don’t care about that information because it is not going to happen to you either or you think that others would change the channel chewing apple if it concerned you. When the Royal Armenia was complaining about the Customs committee by calling it a corrupt body none of the businessmen has ever joined them because they were sure they wouldn’t ever encounter such a problem and wouldn’t go to court for that. They knew if they went to court no one would stand next to them or that the businessmen are as corrupt as the state body that demands bribes. Can we consider the attempt of buying the products of the Royal Armenia and Bjni factory a step to support the businessmen, who suffered the abuse of the state chinovniks? Or can the attempt of persuading the evicted residents of the Northern Avenue that the newly built buildings are only for “elite villagers” console them at all? No matter what this kind of attempts can be considered a slight solidarity around the support of the ones, who suffered abuse. Globally put, our society is a group of guilty and dishonest people. Let’s remember that a great part of our electorate was involved in bribe-taking. It’s a fact that as publicist Armen Hovhannisyan says for our society a great value is the TV show “Vervaratsner”, at which our society loves to giggle. We all taken all together or separately feel guilty unconsciously. If we are totally honest to each other we will feel that we often betray our principles when we try to conform to circumstances either mandatory or consciously. As a result our actions and steps become dishonest and unfair. Perhaps the example wasn’t very precise. Nevertheless, recently all the media agencies of the world declared about the major strike in France. Employees of subways, airports and stations have rebelled against the government. Recently they announced about the strike of teachers and doctors in Greece. People were demanding that the state increases their remuneration. However, only few people joined the strike in Armenia in 1988 when the train drivers of the metro were protesting. Their demand was lingered but was ultimately satisfied. To assume that the state employees, in particular doctors, teachers are satisfied with their salaries would be naïve. In that case, why don’t they ever go on a strike and demand that the government raise their salaries? Delicacy or maybe strong feeling of dignity? Who knows? All the above-mentioned qualities don’t exist in our society. There are reasons that may seem objective at he first sight or maybe for a miserable person: a. it took these people awhile to get a job; b. they don’t stay inert at home all day, at least they go outside from time to time; c. if you make much you will spend much; d. others don’t have what we have, etc. On the other hand, the state workers know their own limits of efforts. They know no matter how hard they try their salary is not going to be more than 60.000 AMD. In order to be hired the teachers and doctors bribe the school principal or the head of the hospital and are being hopeful that by the end of their lives they will retrieve the money they offered in bribe (as of teachers) or as of doctors in the first several months of their employment. It’s easy to predict us and since we know ourselves so well it is very easy for us to predict the steps of others. Therefore, we relate to these negative phenomena in our society in the level of degradation and self-humiliation. But what are we talking about? All this is so unnoticeable compared to the good news that we received from Chile. Recently in one of the coasts of Chile (where swimming is prohibited) one Armenian official was miraculously saved from the jaws of the sharks. He is the deputy-minister of economy of finances of RA. His great talent of being a good swimmer accidentally was reconciled with his great skills of being a good manager of the MC compact. And his salvation is good news not only for Armenians but also Chileans. Perhaps the Armenian flag wasn’t waved in Chile but at least the name of Armenia was mentioned.
