Yesterday it was the presentation event launching the start of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railways construction, which took place at Marabda railway station in Samtskhe-Javakhk, Georgia. The event was organized in participation with the presidents of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey. “Certainly, it is a historical day since Georgia is going out of deadlock and is joining with Europe,” said Georgian president Mikhail Saakashvili. President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev assured that the mentioned project is not aimed against any third country and that it is the vice versa and the railway will enlarge the regional cooperation opportunities and will strengthen the regional security. To note, the memorandum on launching the construction of this railway was signed in February of this year. In that period FM Vardan Oskanyan advised to follow the scenario development calmly and assured that the railway, which evades Armenia’s territory might not have any affect on Armenia’s economy. Recently Vardan Oskanyan said in his speech given to the national TV company that we should not exaggerate the roles of railways and oil pipelines. He was seriously assuring that even if all the communication opportunities passed through Armenia’s territory, Armenia would not benefit much from it. There are certain grounds to insist that the foreign affairs minister of our country really thinks that way.
