Victory of sexual minority

15/11/2007

Yesterday the National Assembly elected a senior representative of the pro-presidential Prosperous Armenia Party Arevik Petrosyan as its new deputy speaker. Until now she headed the parliament committee on human rights and had previously served as deputy minister of justice. Three candidates were nominated for this post. One of them later refused the candidature. It’s noteworthy that during the election two ballots were lost. Prior to voting the Republicans have offered to take into account the political agreements. A similar request was also made by ARF member Vahan Hovhannisyan. According to the latter this speaks of the “political imagination of the sexual majority.” According to Hovhannisyan the women in the Armenian Parliament are sexual minority. We hope that the General Secretary of the Council of Europe Terry Davis will not make a statement about this.
