International action for Teghut

06/11/2007

Advisor of the Friends of the Earth organization, Adriana Natsualas has sent a letter to the people worldwide, who are concerned with ecological issues. In the letter she has also adverted to the exploitation of Copper-Molybdenum mining area of Teghut. The international expert has thoroughly described the organization ACP, which has received a license to exploit the mine. She notes that it is unacceptable to receive profits at the expense of degradation and health of other people. “Over 1,500 acres of this forest is about to be destroyed to accommodate a massive, open-pit copper mine. The exploitation of the mine is dangerous for the environment and will cause death of numerous habitat species included in the Red Book. Therefore we are organizing an action to prevent the exploitation of the mine. We have sent this letter to the President of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan,” reads the letter. All the intersted people or organiztions may send their contacts to us via [email protected] by November 14.
