Patriarch worried

20/10/2007

The Armenian Patriarch of Constantinople, Mesrob Mutafyan has announced that he doesn’t support the bill on the Armenian Genocide approved by the foreign relations commission of the US Congress House of Representatives. “We are worried about the fact that this bill may affect the Armenians, who live in Turkey. We are against it,” said Mesrob Mutafyan in his interview given to “Turkish Daily News” and added that he was going to submit a letter to the US authorities petitioning them to prevent the discussion of the bill. It is worth mentioning that the Patriarch has certain reasons to worry as it is several days that Armenians are exiled from Turkey and the Armenian community can be suppressed at any time. By the way, it is worth mentioning that following the approval of the 106th bill Armenian Catholicos Garegin the Second, who was in America those days, congratulated the Armenians despite the fact that the adoption of that bill is dangerous for many Armenians. To note, yesterday the speaker of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi approved that the 106th bill will be included in the agenda of the House.
