Yesterday “Interfax” cited the announcement of Petros Gharibyan, an elder investigator on important issues of the investigation committee of the RF prosecutor’s office, who had told that the case of murdering journalist of “Nezavisimaya Gazeta” newspaper Anna Politkovskaya had been discovered. “On the other hand, all the chain should be discovered – starting from the person who ordered it and ending up with the one who did it, and thus we should submit factual proofs to the court,” he said. In his words, accusations have been brought against 11 suspected persons. “The list is not limited with these people,” said Mr. Gharibyan and added, “we haven’t brought accusation against the killer yet, however we do know who he is”. Answering to a question whether it meant that the arrested people were the ones that organized and implemented that crime Mr. Gharibyan said, “As for the implementers, yes. As for the organizers, if by saying “the organizers” you mean the ones that coordinated the actions of the implementers and interconnected the separate components of the crime, again yes. Now we are actively working to discover the mediators and organizers. As for the ones who ordered the crime, we have very interesting suspects concerning them, but I can’t say anything more”. The investigation officer also said that two persons, who had been arrested and later released, were not connected with the crime. Mr. Gharibyan also said that the investigation of another case, the murder of journalist Paul Khlebnikov, supported the mentioned case to be discovered too. To the question whether there is direct connection between the mentioned two cases Mr. Gharibyan answered, “These cases are not interconnected, but there is indirect connection; the case involves people, who gave testimonies as witnesses for Khlebnikov’s case. The connection between those people has been discovered long before, most of them have had problems with the law before too, however it is soon yet to speak about direct connection between the two cases of murder”.
