According to Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan the political assessments given about the increase of the price of flour, bread, sugar and other products are merely results of political gaming. As a response to RA NA Republican MP, Hermine Naghdalyan’s question, by which the prices are shifting up because of the upcoming increase of salaries and pensions in 2008 Sargsyan said, “The ones, who generate those assessments are mistaken because everybody knows that the best conditions for any government is the absence of inflation, when the products have cheaper prices. That way the government is able to gain more votes by praising themselves for keeping the prices low. So those assessments are absurd.” The prime minister says on behalf of government that the rise of prices of food in Armenia was not artificial, and is caused by the rise in prices on the international market. He said there was a rise of prices in the world, and Armenia is affected by all means. It is the logic of economy, which has to be acknowledged. In fact, if the goods we import get expensive abroad, the price goes up in Armenia too. “Armenia cannot be isolated from world processes and international prices. However we are conducting surveillance because the government is also worried about this process. We are examining the situation but I should say that this surveillance in general fits into our general politics – reduction of the black market, transparency of business, etc. And if we succeed in cardinal solving of these issues nobody will ever ask us a question. The ones, who receive super profits will pay super taxes and will face greater problems,” said Sargsyan.
