After keeping silence for almost ten years the first president of Armenia, Levon Ter-Petrosyan came up with a speech and broke his silence on September 21. “168 Zham” has already published that speech. As for the international media, the most active media representatives to discuss Ter-Petrosyan’s speech are the Russian and Azeri media representatives. The Russian media mostly highlights that if Ter-Petrosyan becomes president again, Russia will lose its latest base in Caucasus. Even one of the reporters wrote the following headline for his article: “Armenia is not an outpost any more, but doesn’t trick either”. The official Baku has discussed Ter-Petrosyan’s speech too. The head of the Azeri president’s office foreign relations department, Navruz Mamedov has said that Ter-Petrosyan will not be able to become president again “since Armenia is not a democratic country”. “It is the business of the Armenians to decide who will come to power. The official Baku only wishes that the wish of the people could come true,” said the mentioned official of a country, which doesn’t have brilliant democracy either. Furthermore, according to Vafa Guluzade, a former adviser to the Azeri president, the first president of Armenia will not be able to come to power since he advocates peace. In Guluzade’s words, Ter-Petrosyan was removed from power by Russia as the first president of Armenia was trying to settle the conflict of Karabakh, which was out of the interests of Russia. “It is in the geopolitical interests of Russia not to settle the conflict of Karabakh,” he said and added that it was the reason why Ter-Petrosyan was removed from power.
