Yesterday Prime Minister Serzh Sarkisyan in the National assembly of RA announced that Armenia’s state budget will reach a new record high level equivalent to $2.5 billion in 2008. The military potential of the next year will be 400 million USD, which is equivalent to the overall 1998 state budget. Interviewed by journalists afterwards, Sarkisyan denied any connection between the planned increase in government spending and his participation in the upcoming presidential elections. “Only adventurers motivated by some pre-election interests can endanger the republic’s natural development,” he said. “And as you know, I have never been an adventurer. What I have said means the opposite. During these years we have collected enough taxes and if we add those we will have the same.”
