“Gevor’s greatest mistake was to be in the same ring with me,” says Artur Abraham

The 24th boxing match of IBM world champion Artur Abrahamyan has a special importance for Armenians as Abraham was contesting another Armenian boxer Khoren Gevor. After his regular victory Abraham arrived in Armenia to celebrate his victory as usual. During yesterday’s press conference he mentioned that compared to other boxers the match with Khoren Gevor was more difficult because all Armenian boxers have a strong will and don’t want to lose. “It was twice difficult to win but I’m also Armenian and didn’t wish to lose. The important thing is that I won and got here to Yerevan. After my victories I visit Armenia, hold a press conference together with Unibank to communicate with journalists.”

Artur says that months prior to the match he’s watched the previous matches of Khoren Gevor. “He’s watched mine as well. That time you watch your opponents’ strengths and weakness, the way he breathes. For example his strength was that he was always attacking. He was left-handed and could hit strongly with the left arm. He’s a speedy boxer, always moves but if you make it than it’s going to be alright. His greatest mistake was that he agreed on a match with me. He had an opportunity to contest others and win.”

To the question of one of the journalists whether the judge wasn’t wrong to let Gevor continue the match after the 8th round, Abraham said it wouldn’t be interesting because everybody wants to fight till the last breath. “He worked very well till the 6th round and I knew that he’d get tired after the 6th. I was defending and avoiding hits till my time would come.” Artur says that he never has any psychological problems before matches, vice versa he feels very happy. “I should laugh, be glad and joke. I don’t want to be very serious, sit and think about boxing. I was very quiet this time as well.”

By the way, Khoren has met Abraham in Armenia before but in Germany they worked out together for a short period of time. “We haven’t been friendс but knew each other as Armenian boxers. After the match I wished him the best. Later I haven’t called him but am informed how he’s doing. Our assistants have called in the hospital. He had brain concussion but is doing fine now.” Abraham has also spoken of the defeat of one more Armenian boxer, Vic Darchinian by saying that he’s spoken to Vic before the match, “During that hit it seemed to me like someone stabbed me in the heart. We are close to each other although live far away. Vic was just careless for a second and accepted a powerful punch.”

Regarding the question that Edison Miranda claims revenge from Artur Abraham the latter said that they always brag but never do anything in fact. “Miranda’s manager is not quite good. That’s why they always have problems.” By the way the film about Artur Abraham, which the German journalists are making, will be complete in 2008. There are certain segments in the movie from the last match of Abraham.

Abraham, during his previous press conference a few months ago, announced that he should marry an Armenian by all means. He hasn’t changed his mind. Yesterday he said that his wife must be a modest pretty Armenian girl. To the question of the journalists what he’d do if his wife was a boxer, Abraham said, “It would be better, we’d train together. But if seriously, boxing is not for girls. Let her do something better.” Most probably the next match of Abraham will take place on December 8th in Germany. The name of his opponent isn’t known yet.
