“The US President’s candidate for US Ambassador to Armenia is Richard Hoagland,” US Charge d’Affaires Anthony Godfrey stated yesterday. In the meantime, the ANCA continues to oppose this appointment. The Armenian Cause office wants Armenia to have a US Ambassador, however it doesn’t wish to see someone who doesn’t accept the Armenian Genocide as reality. “We insist that Hoagland is not a desirable candidate for us,” the representative of the Armenian Cause in DC, Elizabeth Chooljian, told Armenpress. The solution of this problem is the following. The State Department either recalls Hoagland’s nomination, or the latter withdraws his candidacy, or the President ignores the decision of the Senate and appoints his candidate. “If the State Department insists that Hoagland be appointed Ambassador, it should use this last option, because Senator Bob Menendez announced in the Capitol on April 24 that he will always reject the candidature of any person who denies the Genocide,” said Chooljian. In July the Senate is going to a one-week and in August two-week vacation. The State Department may use this occasion and appoint Hoagland. Let’s mention that another Armenian organization, the Armenian Congress in America, doesn’t oppose Hoagland’s appointment, because they think that Hoagland only reflects the state policy of the US government.
