The opposition will not have a united candidate

“This parliament is much worse than the previous,” said Arshak Sadoyan Wednesday hours before leaving parliament. According to him, the issues have been moved from the National Assembly to the field of a certain political party.

“The Republicans are going to decide everything and the National Assembly plays a smaller role,” explained Sadoyan Wednesday at the “Hayatsk” club.

According to him, the opposition is to blame for this too. It boycotted the National Assembly sessions in 2004 and the authorities saw that they could “get along” without the opposition and that’s why they “reduced the number of players”. What is Arshak Sadoyan going to do when the first session of the new parliament begins after he loses his authority as deputy? It turns out that Sadoyan plans to found a “school for exchange of political expertise” and support the change of generation in the political field. He called what happened on May 12 as “pre-figured elections”, arguing that the distribution of electoral bribes was massive and the vote counters were counting however they saw fit. Member of the “Alternative” NGO/political initiative and politician Aghasi Yenokyan agreed with that. The latter argued that “at least there were no elections in Armenia during Kocharyan’s term”. Why was it decided that there had to be a minimum number of politicians in this National Assembly? In response to his question, Yenokyan responded that now the authorities don’t need to use the National Assembly to legitimize itself. Yenokyan also mentioned that this National Assembly was outlined taking into consideration the upcoming Armenian presidential elections. Yenokyan also drew attention to the fact that the new National Assembly is the first parliament of Armenia where there will be not one member of the “Karabakh” committee. This, according to him, means that we have lost many things and have perhaps lost our interest towards Karabakh. Sadoyan, talking about the behavior of the ARF towards the formation of the government, mentioned that “it turns out that it is possible to be half-pregnant”, just like the ARF now is. Sadoyan believes that “Heritage” will try to “implement some oppositional activities” which is not always successful. Sadoyan was talking a lot about the need for a change of generation. With this he tried to lure the young journalists to get involved in politics.

“If we look at it from the personal interest perspective, politics is much more beneficial than any science or craft and the presidential elections are the best period to enter politics,” explained Sadoyan.

With the generation change squadron, Sadoyan and his “National Democrats Alliance” party are going to support leader of the National Democratic Union Vazgen Manukyan during the upcoming Armenian presidential elections. Sadoyan is certain that this time the first president of the RA, Levon Ter-Petrosyan, will not run for president. He also believes that “it is practically impossible” for the opposition to participate in the presidential elections with a united candidate. Sadoyan is also of the opinion that the talks regarding the united oppositional candidate are the “bait” of the authorities. In fact, leader of “New Times” Aram Karapetyan expressed the same opinion. Yenokyan believes that the opposition will not go to the presidential elections as one. According to the politician, in the pro-government wing only Serge Sargsyan and Robert Kocharyan have political ambitions, while the rest simply have business-oriented ambitions. Yenokyan says that those with political ambitions are in the opposition and that is why the opposition will participate in the presidential elections with several candidates.
