Emergency situation

15/05/2007

On Friday at noon the road leading from Balahovit to the town of Abovyan was in a terrible situation. Around 3 p.m. the flood, resulting from incessant rains, had completely closed the transportable section of the road, leaving people in a confused state. Bicyclists were forced to transfer bicycles to one another as they crossed from “one coast to the other” on the road that had turned into a river due to the downpours. Children were “soaked” in the water as they crossed the road and the doors of the houses located near that area were, obviously, impossible to open because the water would flow inside. This, of course, is Mother Nature, but what’s surprising is that the residents of the Kotayk Marz who are known for living in “heaven” were left helpless. Frankly, that section of Abovyan reminded one of a distant, mute and unpopulated village.
