Perhaps it’s not clear for many people…the real motives behind the secretly-recorded conversation of Artur Baghdasaryan, Robert Kocharyan’s opinion of this being “treachery”, Baghdasaryan’s response to that, etc.
Many people don’t have any doubt that this secret recording was initiated by the National Security Service. Many questions originate in this regard. For example, why does the government publicize the secret tape, done in February, only now? Why did Kocharyan, who called Baghdasaryan a “traitor”, not condemn the fact that the foreign diplomat and Baghdasaryan had been illegally recorded? Why does Kocharyan not legally punish Baghdasaryan for treachery? Why does Baghdasaryan, who finds all this untrue and false PR, not sue the newspaper, which publicized this information? Also, Baghdasaryan has so far not rejected any of the information published in the newspaper. Instead he threatens the government to nominate his candidature during the presidential elections in 2008. Also, it’s noteworthy to say that this noise around Baghdasaryan has risen only after the Armenian opposition started to label Baghdasaryan as a “false oppositionist” during their rallies. Is there a possibility that this noise has risen to get him rid of the label of a “fake oppositionist”? We asked this question to the chairman of the New Times Party, Aram Karapetyan, who had announced months ago that the government ordered the media to raise the rating of “two oppositionists”. “I have never considered Baghdasaryan an oppositionist. I didn’t get much from Baghdasaryan yesterday. Why does he agree with Kocharyan’s statement that he’s a “traitor”? I don’t want to be involved in this game. It’s their business to figure this out,” said Karapetyan. We asked Karapetyan’s opinion, as a political scientist, about to what extent this scandal has affected Baghdasaryan’s rating. “As a political scientist, I don’t think the word “traitor” can ever increase any serious person’s rating. If the person doesn’t agree with a label, he must reject that or respond to it. I am repeating once again that I don’t consider Baghdasaryan and his Legal State Party as part of the opposition,” stated Karapetyan.
