Today prime minister Serge Sargsyan has to appoint a defense minister. The prime minister will definitely assign this position to the head of the armed forces central headquarters, Michael Harutyunyan. Arthur Aghabekyan, ARF member and former deputy defense minister, also desires this position. The head of the ARF office for the Armenian case and political issues, Kiro Manoyan, told “A1+” news agency that Aghabekyan’s appointment in that position has another meaning for the ARF than just an appointment of a member in a high position. He said that they didn’t want just to get the minister’s portfolio and asked “who is more informed about the existing situation in the army than Aghabekyan.” He assures that they don’t want to get that portfolio and then think about whom to assign it. It turns out that Kiro’s close friend, who is the most competent candidate for that position, is an ARF member too. Answering a question whether the ARF will be disappointed in Sargsyan if Aghabekyan is not appointed to that position, he said, “Definitely it will not be a disappointment for this short period of 15-20 days, but we will think about it after the elections.”
