During his visit yesterday to the Arabkir Department of Passports of the Police of Armenia, Prime Minister Serge Sargsyan also spoke about the crimes of the previous month. With regard to the explosions in the offices of the Prosperous Armenia Party and the shootings in the town of Echmiatzin, Sargsyan said, “These are not necessarily related to the election, because nothing was proved. Our law enforcement agencies and the police have sufficient resources to prevent destabilization. There are criminals in any country, in any society, and crimes are committed in any country, in any society; the important thing is to reveal the crime and punish the criminals.” In many countries scandalous crimes are followed by resignations of high-ranking officials of the security agencies. We asked Prime Minister Serge Sargsyan if replacements in the Police of Armenia were possible. “I do not know which country you mean. I do not approve of resignations in this case. I think the resignation is a political category, and the policemen should not be engaged in politics. The police are appointed, they perform their functions, and if the leadership of the police think that the lower bodies fail to perform their functions, they simply dismiss them or change their position,” Sargsyan stated.
