Assistant to US State Secretary Daniel Fried announced that certain “progress” has been achieved regarding the peaceful resolution of the Karabagh conflict. During his speech in Washington DC, Fried mentioned, “We can speak about the Karabagh conflict all day but the key element of the conflict is its peaceful resolution. Regarding the conflict resolution, we are actively cooperating with Russia and France. We have certain progress and hope to achieve resolution this year,” adding that the resumption of military actions will annul all the positive efforts of Azerbaijan towards progress. “The government of Azerbaijan intends to take the nation to a prosperous future and I hope it will be that way,” he said. In Fried’s words, a powerful country must have a powerful free media, an opposition, and central institutions. He hopes both Azerbaijan and Armenia, despite their economic differences, are able to reach success in the 21st century.
