The Council of the Republican Party confirmed late night yesterday the decision of the executive committee of the party to name Serge Sargsyan prime minister. During the session 60 out 0f 66 members were present. Speaker Tigran Torosyan, the deputy leader of the party, stated that the most experienced and suitable candidate of the party is Serge Sargsyan. He mentioned that Serge Sargsyan’s experience, along with other reasons, make it obvious that the Republican Party made the right decision “because appointment to such high-ranking positions is not the case when there are many candidates and competition.” According to Torosyan, the president of Armenia must hold a political consultation with the political forces on April 3 with only a day remaining before the deadline of appointment of prime minister. “Although it is already obvious that the coalition will endorse Serge Sargsyan,” said Torosyan after the meeting of the Council of the Republican Party. He said he thinks that by the end of the ten-day term on April 4 the president will appoint Serge Sargsyan prime minister. During the session the RPA top members also spoke about the local government elections of Armavir. Sargsyan announced that RPA is also interested in verifying the elections in that city, and that in case violators are found they must be punished. He also added that it’s still disputable which party candidate made violations.
