“Vardan Oskanyan: typo and error”

20/03/2007

The “Impeachment” alliance demands that Robert Kocharyan step down from power and be brought to justice for treason and other heavy crimes.

“R. Kocharyan sold Karabakh in order to keep power,” announced member of the “Alternative” NGO/political initiative and editor-in-chief of the “Armenian Times” daily Nikol Pashinyan and claimed that there has been some kind of transaction, according to “A1+”.

“In its annual Human Rights 2006 report, the U.S. State Department defined Nagorno-Karabakh as a territory occupied by Armenia with the modus operandi that the U.S. considers the Nagorno-Karabakh issue as Armenia’s territorial demand to Azerbaijan. The other fact is that the U.S. did not notice that nobody participated in the constitutional amendments referendum held on November 27,” he said.

According to Nikol Pashinyan, the issue will enter a phase where the phased peace settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict by the international community is not excluded.

“Before, the official position of the U.S. was that the U.S. recognizes the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, but then it said that the precision of the status of Nagorno-Karabakh is subject to negotiations by both sides. This is missing in the recent announcement,” stated Pashinyan.

Pashinyan also said that the international community, particularly the U.S., is starting a process of moving the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict to the UN Security Council.

The “Alternative” NGO/political initiative is especially worried over the fact that although ten days have passed since the announcement made by the U.S. State Department, however the Armenian authorities still have not reacted.

“It is ridiculous to see how Armenian Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanyan is presenting this as some kind of typo or error. We find that the typo and error is Vardan Oskanyan and the authority he represents,” said Pashinyan. With this said, members of “Alternative” warn Armenian citizens, Armenian political forces, the sector of Armenian authorities that don’t know anything, the Nagorno-Karabakh authorities and the people of Karabakh and all those who are concerned about this.

“There is only one way out-Armenia’s foreign policy must be reformed and that is only possible by removing Kocharyan’s erroneous administration,” concluded N. Pashinyan.
